We also stock a large quantity of used cars of varying makes, models, shapes and sizes. To view our current retail stock please search for brian_leighton_ltd and click on items for sale. | This Ebay account is purely used for selling the part exchanges that we don’t wish to retail. We will endeavour to describe the vehicle for sale as accurately as possible outlining any defects that the vehicle may have. There is even a copy of the vehicle appraisal within the pictures to help you ascertain the condition of the bodywork. In the unlikely event that we miss anything that would prevent you from buying the car we will happily cancel the transaction and your obligation to go ahead with the deal. It is therefore imperative that when you come to collect any vehicle bought from us you should check it over thoroughly before paying us to ensure you are happy with it. It goes without saying that our trade cars don’t come with a warranty. Please bare this in mind when bidding. | Vehicle description | This is a pretty tidy V50 and with a little bit of preparation it will be very tidy. | Exterior Condition | The body and paint are generally in very good order. The items noted on the appraisal are minor. In addition to these there is paint flaking from the alloy wheels are some slight kerbing too. | Interior Condition | The interior is in very good order and all the electrics are working as they should. The driver’s seat is starting to show signs of wear. | Mechanical Condition | The car drives very well with no warning lights displayed. There is an issue with what I think are a front anti roll bar link and a front wheel bearing. | Service History | There are 7 service stamps in the book plus an 8th that was written in. The last that was written in was carried out on 17/09/2011 at 82288 miles. | To ask any questions or to arrange a viewing please either send me a message or dial 0844 8225175 and ask for Mark. 6 ISSUES FOR £1 Search Car Reviews: You're in - Car Reviews: First Drives Volvo V50 Volvo V50 D5 SE Sport Volvo mildly revised load lugger looks better, but does it load better? Auto Express Car Reviews Text: Ross Pinnock / Photos: Dominic FraserJuly 2007 Rating: The V50 has always been a handsome estate. Unfortunately, it’s never been a particularly big oneSporty, stylish and practical – the new Volvo V50 is as versatile as a Swiss army knife. But can it cut through the competition on UK roads? The Swedish brand has revised its smallest estate range with the addition of two new engines. AlongÂside a fresh entry-level 2.0-litre petrol unit, there’s now the option of the potent D5 diesel powerplant for the first time.Cosmetic revisions are limited, and only true Volvo fans will spot the wider grille, plus the revamped light covers and bumper at the front. It’s much the same story at the back, where new lamp clusters featuring LED bulbs are the only obvious difference.None of this is bad news, though, because the V50 has always been a handsome estate. Unfortunately, it’s never been a particularly big one – and, disappointingly, the modest 417-litre boot capacity is the same as on the previous model. At least it expands to a more useful 1,307 litres with the rear seats folded down.Opt for the SE Sport trim of the car we drove, and you get large 18-inch wheels and a full bodykit to help set your V50 apart from lesser variants. The cabin also features leather upholstery and some of the most comfortable seats on the market. Inside, storage is improved, thanks to large door bins, while solid build qualÂity and superior materials reinforce the V50’s premium feel. Our test car also had the advanced Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). At £650 it’s not cheap, but the clever set-up alerts the driver to objects in the over-the-shoulder blind spot.Rear-facing digital cameras mounted in the door mirrors monitor the areas where your vision is restricted, and flash warning lights positioned on the A-pillars if it’s unsafe to change lanes. The same system is available in the XC90, and although it takes some getting used to, it eases some of the strain of motorway driving. In comparison, the D5 engine is a familiar piece of technology that has been tried and tested in cars across the Volvo model range. The power output has been reduced for the V50, although it still produces 178bhp and 350Nm of torque – which is enough to propel the revised load-lugger from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. Thanks largely to its five-cylinder configuration, the oil-burner also has a distinctive growl – but under full throttle the noise is all too noticeable. Once cruising, refinement improves, making the Volvo a relaxed motorway cruiser.Sport models like ours come fitted with a chassis package designed to improve handling – although as the V50 shares underpinnings with the Ford Focus, it’s stable and sure-footed anyway. Unfortunately, the steering feels a little numb. Still, the Volvo is composed in bends, and despite its large 18-inch alloy wheels, the V50’s ride is impressive. Combine this with the brand’s smooth Geartronic automatic transmission, and the estate is a soothing car to drive.Although lower-spec variants argu-ably make more sense than the top-of-the-range SE Sport, the revised V50 is a desirable family car. Overall, it’s a solid alternative to contenders from the likes of Honda, Saab and BMW.But it’s not cheap. If you want your Volvo with as much equipment as the option-laden model here, you will have to spend £30,240! It’s not difficult to find cheaper alternatives with more tempting prices.Rival: BMW 3-Series TouringCompact executive models don’t come much better than BMW’s class-leading 3-Series Touring. It’s great to drive, has plenty of room inside and is refined. What’s more, it’s available with some of the best diesel engines money can buy. Dangerously so in my opinion (I'm an Advanced Driver, and used to drive 40-50000 miles per year - no convictions or accidents to date in over 25years, so I feel reasonably confident in my assessment). For day to day practical load lugging - this car is not too brilliant either, mostly because Volvo can't be bothered to change the rear seat arrangements ......if you're looking for traditional Volvo values, forget it. If you want something that handles well gives good economy, and looks good too - then it’s very good. Very black & white, no mediocre here, the things it does well, it absolutely excels in, the things it does poorly in, are really very very poor. But......For professed safety conscious Volvo, a very sensitive indicator stem means that if you so much as breathe on it accidentally during a gear change, you get three unwanted flashes, when you want none - and you can't stop it!! Great if another car thinks you're turning off when you're not!!The thick "A pillar" means you can lose view of entire cars, and fiddly console buttons and a stupid menu system means where one press will do to turn on the Traffic Announcements on any other car, this one needs six, and from three separate buttons, all whilst viewing the menu screen. Crazy!!!For RH drive versions (UK), the handbrake lever is near the passenger seat, great if you have a beautiful women next to you (wife, of course), but not good if its some fat geezer (yes I speak from experience). When it comes to loading and use the 60/40 split rear seats these are not good either. Assume a long load, and you want to fold (the potentially useful) front passenger seat (which won't fold flat 'cos the head rest is too tall), but you still want room for two kids. No can do. The 40% split is behind the driver, so instead you have to loose two rear seats (60%), even if you're only sticking a length of 2" x 2" wood in the car. And, again, even if you only want a little bit extra load space and want to fold down the 40% rear seat, you can't do that without all the palaver of removing the, otherwise brilliant, cassette thing that holds a brolley, a roll up safety net, and a roll up rear luggage cover. It's heavy and awkward to do and then you need to store it somewhere...For a safety conscious image company, Volvo has really got it really wrong controls wise. Dangerously so in my opinion (I'm an Advanced Driver, and used to drive 40-50000 miles per year - no convictions or accidents to date in over 25years, so I feel reasonably confident in my assessment). For day to day practical load lugging - this car is not too brilliant either, mostly because Volvo can't be bothered to change the rear seat arrangements for RH drive versions. The lack of door pockets (microscopic in the front, and none at all in the back) is poor too.For image and external design they have got that right, and it’s a delight to drive handling and performance wise- just don't knock the indicator or use the radio! Oh, and I'm getting 50mpg in urban traffic to and from work everyday. So in summary, if you're looking for traditional Volvo values, forget it. If you want something that handles well gives good economy, and looks good too - then it’s very good. Very black & white, no mediocre here, the things it does well, it absolutely excels in, the things it does poorly in, are really very very poor. For me though, with grown up kids, and limited times I need to load lug - I would choose it again, if only because you can learn to live with its short comings, and I love the styling. It's probably worth noting that prior to this I had been driving a SEAT Alhambra 7 seater so was used to excellent visibility and acres of room inside. A change of job and family down sizing gave the opportunity for a change. I find the driving position to be generally comfortable ......a reasonable amount of leg room). However, I have an occasionally recurring back problem so still use a lumbar roll as a rule.
