The clutch is light and at a good level and operating perfectly. The braking is VERY GOOD. The car does not overheat; there are no leaks of oil or any other fluid which I could see and in fact the engine compartment is VERY CLEAN and DRY AS A BONE! All the tyres appear to be in very good condition. The exhaust is in very good order. The car starts easily first time with the key and without any hesitation and the travel in all the pedals is smooth and fluid. During my drive of the car no warning lights came on the dashboard. To conclude I would rate the drive of this car and its performance as PRETTY MUCH AS CLOSE TO PERFECT AS YOU CAN ASK FOR AT LESS THAN £1,300!! J | Inside the car is in ABSOLUTELY SUPERB condition for its age and mileage. There is a lot of specification on this car and NOTHING IS OUT OF ORDER. The electric mirrors, windows, Stereo and everything else are working perfectly. There are hardly any signs of wear at all inside this car. The HALF LEATHER HEATED ‘SPORTS’ SEATS are all in EXCELLENT CONDITION and with the exception of just a tiny bit of rubbing right on the edge of the driver’s seat bolster they are free from tears, rips or stains or in fact any signs of wear at all!! The door panels are all free from damage and clean and the roof lining is in good order. The Carpets are in ‘AS NEW’ CONDITION and free from damage as they are currently covered (and have been all their life!) by genuine VOLVO FLOOR MATS! As stated all the electrics work, the headlamps are really bright, stereo is a VERY NICE VOLVO FACTORY FITTED PREMIUM TAPE/CD/RADIO System and sounds FANTASTIC! The dashboard is back-lit really brightly as it should be and clearly visible. The boot area is CLEAN and is free from damage and very presentable. There are ABSOLUTELY NO RATTLES FROM ANY ITEMS OF LOOSE TRIM when driving. Overall the interior of the car is in Superb Order | There are plenty of extras on this car and here are just a few of them; | Air- Conditioning | Full ‘SPORTS’ Upholstery | Sports Spoiler and Front Splitter | Heated Seats | Multi Function Computer | Centre Arm Rest | Power Steering | Electric Mirrors | Remote Central Door Locking | Air Bags with Volvo Patented ‘SIPS’ | Electric Windows | Electric Mirrors | Engine Immobiliser | ABS Braking | Factory Fitted Premium Sound System | Sports Alloy Wheels | Front Fog Lamps | Twin Cup Holders | On the outside the car is in what I would consider VERY GOOD CONDITION for its age and mileage. The paintwork is VERY BRIGHT (just take a look at the photo’s) and has not faded. There are a few little marks around the car from wear and tear but other than a small scuff / scrape right at the bottom (almost under the car) on the corner of the rear bumper there is nothing that I really need to mention. There are certainly NO MAJOR BUMPS, CRACKS, DENTS OR SCUFFS on the car. The ‘Exclusive Sports’ alloy wheels are all in VERY GOOD condition. I have checked to see if there are any signs that this car has ever had any paintwork during it’s life and can’t find any at all. Overall as you can see from the pictures this is a very attractive car indeed! | The car is supplied with a spare wheel and tools. I have two keys and TWO remote central locking fobs that are in perfect working order. | As stated the car has a FULL AND COMPLETE SERVICE HISTORY and I have the original service book, the original book pack and the original owners hand book. | All in all this is an EXCELLENT EXECUTIVE FAMILY SALOON CAR. With LOADS OF EXTRA’S and A LONG MOT & FULL SERVICE HISTORY as well as CLASS LEADING SPECIFICATION AND SAFETY FEATURES this is a car that will meet the requirements of even the most demanding user. I would like to take a moment just to comment on the negative feedback I received just over a year ago. The ‘Gentleman’ (I use the term very loosely) who has left the feedback bought from me a SAAB 9-5 SE Automatic. The car is a 99 T Reg and had covered 228,000 Miles! It had a FULL SERVICE HISTORY and had been owned by a Doctor ALL IT’S LIFE however and was in very good order considering the £600 I sold it for! The buyer, who lives 150 Miles from me came, test drove the car and inspected it thoroughly before driving it all the way back home. Just less than a week after taking the car I received a letter (I will be more than happy to show this letter to ANYONE who comes to buy a car from me) DEMANDING immediate payment of £350 into his bank account as the car had developed an oil leak??? Now call me crazy but I don’t think a £350 payment against a car that was sold for £600 would be fair in anybody’s eyes...do you?? His letter states that if he didn’t get the money within 24 hours (oh, he wanted it quick) then he was going to leave me negative feedback!! He also went on to say that the oil had leaked on his ‘block paved’ drive and part of the charge was because he had to get his ‘drive cleaned’(Remember I will be happy to let you read it yourself!) However if you have a look at where this guy lives on Google street maps he is in a TERRACE HOUSE WITH NO BLOODY DRIVEWAY!!! (You just couldn’t make this up!!) I have contacted eBay as this is clearly ‘Feedback Extortion’ and they have removed his comments but not the ‘mark’. I do strongly disagree that eBay allow this kind of thing, especially from someone WHO HAD NO FEEDBACK THEMSELVES. | As you can see I am really passionate about providing a proper service to the best of my ability and I hope that you will take this into account when considering making a purchase from me. The S40 has been on sale for some time, but this is our first opportunity to drive the Sport version, which brings firmer suspension, 18in alloys, a bodykit and a new cloth interior. Do the changes work? In a word, no. The ‘Dynamic Chassis’ and big wheels create a firm, fidgety ride at any speed. The cloth seats feel like vinyl and the 2.0-litre diesel isn’t as refined as the 1.6. Should I buy one? We wouldn’t. In cheaper formats the S40 is an appealing car, but the diesel motor and ‘sporty’ addenda seem a pointless combination. Owned a V50 for just over 12 months and 32k miles - it's quite the nicest, most reliable and fault free vehicle I've ever owned. Delivered free from fault and continued in that vein - 2 services and 2 replacement tyres are the only costs. Apart from all that it is a 'looker' and attracts many admiring glances and comments. Driven hard the car will deliver 40+mpg, driven sensibly 47 is not difficult to achieve, and if you've plenty of time, driving at 60mph it will happily deliver over 50mpg. The engine can appear noisy in low gear under hard acceleration but noise levels quickly tail off as you gather speed. For a diesel performance is smashing and from 40mph the torque and pick up is a joy. It will accelerate freely all the way to 120mph and even when using 6th gear (its a novelty at first) it pulls very well. Needless to say ... We bought it from a volvo dealer at two years old with 20k on the clock. We have driven 30k in it since then over two years. In that time it has peformed very well. It developed an electrical fault one month out of warranty which was fixed for free by the Warrington Volvo dealers. Apart from servicing we have had no problems with the car.The specification of the vehicle is excellent and it is good to drive. It is pretty economical and never seems slow to drive, even with the 1.6D engine (I am use to driving a much more power mercedes e-class!). My wife loves the heated leather seats and the fact the drivers seat has an electric memory function. My only real complaint would be excessive tyre noise. However the car does have very low profile 17" wheels so I guess this is to be expected. The high performance stereo system is excellent and the interior is of very high quality. The leather is so soft and it brings you into a sense of absolute luxury.
The controls are perfectly posisition and the steering is perfect and light (I drive fingertip style usually).
The boot coped with a load for going to Ireland for a month. The car is roomy and the centre console is fantastic and futuristic.
The engine is quiet and there is barely any tyre/ road noise in the cabin.
Looks are fantastic especially in Black with the Body kit and Alloys as standard on this model.
Bad points however on this car are that its severely underpowered (overtaking is risky at the best of times). For a vehicle of the pedigree of Volvo it is remarkably poor in efficiency at a time when many other makes are achieving 35+ mpg round town that this barely pushes 25 mpg. Also considering that the volume of the fuel tank is very low (40 ltr tank compared to a standard 60 ltr) therefore if driving distance you need to know where the stations are to refill. Also 200 miles in town driving is a poor show. It would appear to me that Volvo have spent alot of money on safety (which we applaud) however at the expense of economy.But overall it is a very nice car to drive!!! 2.0 D Sport 4dr orest supyk , leicestershire . I had the 2.0D Sport which lookks VERY smart in black with its discrete spoiler and 18 inch alloys, that said the alloys, in my ownership, have been very prone to kerb damage as the low-profile tyres offer poor protection. Acceleration in the mid-range speeds is very impressive, the engine pulls well in 6th gear even on an incline and I've managed an average 43 mpg in spite of not sparing 'the clog' much. Ride is a bit on the firm side but this was in contrast to my previous car, a BMW 318Ci, which had a less sporting ride. Cornering is confident in the S40 and although the steering isnt as light and precise as my Focus Zetec (52 reg)its acceptable. The car's reliability has been an issue in the last 4 months because the car sometimes won't start and once cut out whilst driving. Following several trips to the dealership this hasn't been resolved but it may be due to the EGR valve as sometimes the car will start if the plug to the valve is disconnected.I would buy another Volvo but I would try to avoid the Ford-sourced 2.0D engine, perhaps opting for the 2.4/ D5 instead as fitted in the S60- my wife has had absolutely no problem with this unit in nearly 130,000 miles of motoring.
