PART EXCHANGE CLEARANCE. Please read listing fully. Here we have a 1994 (L reg) Volvo 940 GLE estate. This is the 7 seater version. Automatic Transmition. ...> 2.3 litre engine. (Not the usual under powered 2.0 litre). Half Leater Seats. 4 x Electric Windows. Electric Sunroof. Central Locking. Electric Mirrors. Heated front seats. (Drivers seat is showing some wear sign on bolster) No holes. Alloy Wheels. Kenwood (Face-off) CD player. (Comes with all booklets). M.o.t until 24th June 2012. Tax until end June 2012. Now the bad points & they all have them if we`re honest. There is a small dent in the passenger side rear wheel arch, nothing bad, but would rather mention it. (Please see pictures). Small piece of trim missing from inside of drivers side door. (Please see pictures). One tyre is worn & will need replacing. Car has a small missfire on tickover. (May just be a plug or HT lead) don`t have the time to investigate. I have driven the car on a 30 mile round trip & the car drives fine & doesn`t miss a beat. All the gears change fine & as they should, but only felt it fair to mention the missfire. It dissapears as soon as you press the throttle & most buyers probably wouldn`t notice it, but i know it`s there & i try to be as honest as i can in my descriptions. The bodywork is in very good straight condition, with no rust or dents, apart from the small one in the rear wheel arch as described. The inside could do with a good hoover out. If i get the time, i will do it, but please assume that it will need a clean. This car has only had 3 owners in it`s life, the last owner since 2007. As i have said, this is a part exchange vehicle & as such, is being sold as described & with no warrenties offered. Viewing is highly recommended & welcomed. Test drive will only be given by me, unless you provide proof of insurance that covers you to drive the car on a fully comprehensive basis. (Sorry, but been caught out by non insured drivers before). Any questions, please ask, but please don`t leave it till the last minute, as i am not always at my computer at auction end. Car is CASH upon collection ONLY. Less than 10 positive or recent bad feedback, then please send me your address & contact number before bidding, otherwise i will block your bids. FSH, LOW MILAGE, Beautiful Condition
Hi and welcome to the sale or exchange of my lovelly volvo estate. She is in very good condition as you can see in the photos, I only bought her three ...> weeks ago, as a temp repalcement for my Discovery which was back in the garage yet again being fixed, Landrover now sold as knackered. I have just put 12 mths mot on the Volvo and 6 mths tax, she sailed through the MOT no advisories and tester commented on how nice she is. I would confidently drive anywhere in her and have done nearly 2,000 miles since I got her without any issues at all as I have been using her for work. She has FSH and only covererd 107k miles although this will go up as I am using her everyday. I now need to replace my Landrover with another 4x4 so open to offers and swaps, just give me a ring. Please note that although she is an old car she is in exceptional condition as you can , see so I will not be giving her away for peanuts. I am prepared to swap plus small amount of cash either way within ebay rules obviously ;-) towards a 4x4. Would prefer Jeep but open to offers so long as it is nice and not a Frontera. VOLVO 940 AUTO ESTATE Good condition volvo, with good service history stamped in service book to 94,000 then receipts for service every year untill now.Recently ...> I have had the cam belts renewed, complete oil/filter service inclusive of gearbox and rear axle, new brake pads and tyres,also new half exhaust last year. Just been through M.O.T no problems, so has 12 months m.o.t, the tax is negotiable. Good solid volvo, runs very smooth, everything works.Low miles 110,000 and well serviced has never let me down.extremely reliable as volvos are. Faults; glove box is locked shut, I had to replace the drivers mirror with one that does not exactly match, small burn in passenger seat back, recently noticed offside headlamp wiperblade missing.Repaired chip in windscreen, not a problem as passed m.o.t. and radio has no F.M. Interior; I would say good although the drivers footwell has a rip in the carpet. Exterior; good again, no signs of rust, odd ding here and there comensurate with age, some small scratches by drivers door handle. So a good solid volvo, with no work required for some time. It is MOT`d till 26/10/2012 and Taxed till 31/3/2012 This is an honest sale so I am listing the bad points I have spoken to a few people as I know nothing about engines and they seem to think that the head gasket has gone as there is like steam coming from the exhaust but it starts first time and runs ok. There is a right angled crack at the bottom corner of the windscreen which has been there since I bought the car it does not affect the MOT. The hatchback will not stay up in cold weather. Instrument panel lights need new bulbs. It does not have a towbar so as far as I know it hase never towed. Cash on Collection only Sold as Seen X

Here we have our cherished Volvo 940 Estate.Wentwoth Model, no expenses spared on the manufacture of these cars, leather interior, heated seats and electric ...> windows are to name but a few of the refinements that Volvo did to create the ultimate driving experience of its time.This car has been with my family for 4 years now and we are very reluctant to sell, but unfortunetly the Turbo unit has blown and this is beyond my financial limitations for the vehicle.I have shopped around and these are available in new or exchange parts and a refurbished option, but as i said-beyond what i`m willing to spend.We have downsized to a smaller car and don`t wish to repair the Volvo.We also feel that this car would be an ideal project for a motor enthusiast or an excellent donor for another.On a plus side it has had much work done and a lot of money spent over recent years.New head gasket...and all that goes with this such as the timing belt replaced..bushes etc,4 new tyres on alloy wheels...these are the better version of the Volvo alloys...ie not the horrid 5 spoke!New battery.New back box.New Front Callipers, Vented Discs and Pads all round.New Rear Shock Absorbers.Bad point is that it needs a new Turbo Unit. This has not damaged the engine at all...white smoke came out the exhaust and the engine was turned off immediately. The turbo has been partly removed and inspected and it is the fan of the turbo at fault...it has NOT thrown metal anywhere ... the oil seal has gone and this forced oil into the combustion chamber and this resulted in the white smoke. After removing the turbo the engine was restarted to see if all was well...it is fine.Speedometer is intermittent...the sender unit needs a clean i was told...so we cannot guarantee the mileage.I do have the new MOT certificate Which has the Advisory`s on it.Car will need to be towed/trilered away.No tyre kickers or time waster as i`m a busy man!!Cash on collection please.This car is worth at least £150 on a weigh in scrap value alone...i don`t want this to happen as it has been an excellent car.It must be worth more to someone for the parts alone.Otherwise spend a little and get a turbo unit and you then have an excellent car. X

This is so typical of this model of Volvo which for many is the last of the "built to last forever" Volvo`s, as it just feels so solid and sturdy.It is ...> a high spec version of the 940 estate being the Turbo and the GLE model so comes with full leather seating and plenty of other goodies too.The electric sunroof,windows,mirrors and heated seats all work fine.The stereo is the original and will need the code but i think i have another from an 850 which should fit ok.The car starts instantly and drives without fault.It has just passed an mot so that runs until January 2013.The bodywork is in good order with no rust,if you want to be critical it could do with a t-cut and polish when the weather becomes milder as it is just a bit too damp at the moment.Obviously the mileage sounds high but it is less than 10k per year and everybody knows these cars easily rack up very high mileages.You can not see in the pictures but it does have the factory pull down dog guard.Although there is no service history present with the car there is good reason to believe the car has been well cared for namely there is a sticker on the timing belt cover stating it was changed at 153k and also that prior to my friend getting the car in 2010 it had just 2 owners from new with the second owner having it from just 3 years old.The probable reason for the history being missing is that when my friend got the car it had been a cat c due to just having a dent on the rear wing which was neither structural or serious (often the cost of collecting and storing the car outweighs its value at this point) ,often the cars documentation is sent to the insurance company and they sadly never release it.The car was subject to all the necessary Government/VOSA checks in order to return it to the road .I am just being totally up front and honest (as is the norm if you read my feedback) as many cars of this age will be cat c or d that are advertised on ebay which are not declared by the seller.You are welcome to view before you bid as you bid to buy not to reserve the right to view first.I can collect the winning bidder from the local train station in March,Cambs.You can borrow my trade insurance policy to tax the vehicle if you require.Any questions please do not hesitate to ask. FR layout The Volvo 700 and 900 series are two ranges of mid-size car manufactured by Volvo Cars in the 1980s and 1990s. The 700 series was introduced in 1982, followed in 1990 by the 900 series. The 700, designed by Jan Wilsgaard, was originally to have been a replacement for the 200 series, but production of that model continued.
The most visible differences between the 700 and the 900 series were the more rounded corners on the body of the latter, and a somewhat better-appointed interior. The 960 was substantially revised for the 1995 model year, improving the handling. The range was first augmented and finally supplanted by the Volvo 850 in 1993, with the last of the 900s being sold in 1998. Some 900 series were built as chassis for ambulances and hearses after the main production run had been completed. 1,360–1,510 kg (3,000–3,300 lb) The 760 was Volvo's attempt to cement a place in the prestige market, after building a reputation for being solid and safe rather than out-and-out luxurious cars. Jan Wilsgaard, head of Volvo's Design and Styling team, proposed over 50 new designs for the new car. It was introduced to the US in 1982 for the 1983 model year as the 760 GLE sedan. This new design was criticized by the media when released: Gordon Murray of Autocar Magazine said, "To me it's obscene! That goes right against the grain of what everybody else is trying to do. To me it looks like a European version of a North American car. It produces the same amount of power as a 2600 or 3500 — in this day and age it disgusts me to see something about like that. It's a definite step backwards." All that changed however when Autocar and Car & Driver got their hands on a turbo intercooled 760; they said it was one of the best handling and fastest accelerating cars they had seen in a while, thundering from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in under 8 seconds.[citation needed] 1984–1985 Volvo 760 Turbo sedan (Australia) Turbocharged and intercooled variants were added in 1984, station wagon variants and the 740 – the 760's lower-specification sibling – were introduced for the 1985 model year. In 1985 Electronic Traction Control system was introduced. For the 1988 model year, the 760 received numerous updates. From the outside, the most noticeable of the over 2,000 changes were the revised front sheetmetal, including an aluminium hood, recessed windscreen wipers, and new aerodynamic headlights. Inside, all 760s were equipped with a new electronic climate control (ECC), a revised dashboard, three-position tilt steering, and a new stereo system. Underneath, sedans received the same multi-link independent rear suspension that was used on the 780.[1] Along with the revised dash, the interior saw the addition of a revised dome light and many fabric accent pieces.
The Volvo 760 was also used as a police car in several countries. East German leader Erich Honecker also often used this Volvo in his governmental car pool.
For its final year of production, 1990, 760 sedans received tail lights in the style of the Volvo 780 (see below), and minor interior changes. The 760 was discontinued after the 1990 model year (with production ending on 27 June 1990), and was replaced by the Volvo 960, an evolutionary update of the 760 chassis. The Volvo 740 outlived the 760, remaining for another two years.

56.5 in (1435 mm) (Estate) Introduced in early 1984 (in the U.S. for the 1985 model year), the 740 was a simpler equipped version of the Volvo 760. The 740 was intended to be a mid-size car that offered a bit more style, performance, and luxury than the venerable 200 series. The '4' in the model name had once signified a four-cylinder engine, but by the time of the introduction of the 740 it simply meant less luxurious equipment as four- and six- cylinder engines were fitted across the range. Volvo 740 wagon (US) In the U.S., the 740 was offered from 1985 to 1992 as a 4-door sedan (sometimes referred to as the 744) and a 5-door station wagon (also known as the 745). Production of the 740 ceased in late 1992, though the engine, transmission, chassis, and other details lived on in the Volvo 940 (see below), which was essentially a facelifted 740. Volvo 700-series sedan (US) In 1990 the 740 received a minor facelift with new composite headlamps and 780-style tail lights. In 1991, both the 740 and the newly introduced 940 received an updated dashboard, similar in appearance to the ones found in the 760. The 740 remained mostly unchanged for the 1992 model year, and was phased out in 1993 in favour of the Volvo 940.
Aside from styling, 1990 marked a number of mechanical improvements to the 740 series. The B230 motor received larger 13 mm (0.5 in) connecting rods. The 740 Turbo switched from the Garrett T3-series turbocharger to the Mitsubishi TD04 series, offering quicker spool-up and better low-RPM boost at the expense of top-end performance. The fuel system was upgraded from Bosch LH-Jetronic 2.2 to 2.4 (in 1988 for naturally aspirated cars, 1990 for Turbo cars). The newer fuel system offered onboard diagnostics, which are easily accessible from under the hood, and require no special equipment. In 1993, the final year for the 740, the mechanical engine cooling fan was replaced with an electric fan. In short, many of the mechanical lackings of the 1985-89 740s were ironed out in the 1990-92 model years. The 1990-93 Volvo 700-series cars may very well represent one of the most reliable 4-door passenger sedans of its era due to a limited number of engineering limitations and solid build quality.
Trim levels were GL, GLE and GLT worldwide; Continental markets had some exceptions to this rule. The most interesting exception was perhaps the 740 Turbo 16v sold only in Italy. Bertone The Volvo 780 Coupé debuted at the International Auto Show in Geneva, Switzerland in 1985, marking Volvo's return to the two-door coupe market following the departure of the 262C in 1981. The 780 became available in Europe in 1986 and in United States a year later.
Like its predecessor, the 780 was designed and built by Carrozzeria Bertone in Turin, Italy. The hood, trunk, and roof lines were all slightly lower than the standard 700 series profile, and the C-pillar was wider and had a more gradual slope down to the trunk. Headroom was improved over the 262C because of Bertone’s mere 1 cm lowering of the roofline. Window frames all had black matte trim, and were accented with chrome. Chrome also highlighted the door handles, bumpers, and side mouldings. Originally, it had been planned to use a smaller 2,458 cc turbocharged version of the PRV V6 (as seen in the Renault 25 and Alpine),[3] which had been successfully tested in 740s and 760s. In the smaller engine room of the 780, however, the engine overheated and the PRV V6 Turbo never appeared in a Volvo.
In the first two years the 780 was available worldwide ('86 and '87) the 780 was available with the B280F V6 engine and a solid (live) rear axle. In the Italian market, originally only the Volkswagen built TD24 was to be offered, with 129 PS (95 kW),[3] but soon the V6 also became available and a 155 PS (114 kW) 2.0-litre turbo (B200ET) Italian tax special was also added in 1986. In the following year, the 780 came equipped with Volvo's independent rear suspension, which used self-leveling Nivomat shocks, to keep ride height correct.
The B280F at this point had roughly 150 hp (110 kW), but the car itself was nearly 3,400 lb (1,500 kg). To address concerns over performance, Volvo introduced the B230FT+; a B230FT with Volvo's boost controller, Turbo+, increasing the engine output to 175 hp (130 kW). The following model year saw it increase to 188 hp (140 kW). In Italy, late 780s were available with the B204GT. This was a 16 Valve Turbo motor producing 200 hp (150 kW). In the car's final year, 1991, it was rebadged simply as "Coupé". At this point, the car came only in turbo guise.
Volvo's official production total for the 780 is 8,518 cars built between 1986 and 1991. As before, a coupé would remain absent from Volvo's model line for several years, until the front-wheel drive C70 premiered in 1995 for the following model year. [edit] Volvo 940 Volvo 940 Production

Introduced in 1991, the 940 was essentially a cosmetic reskin of the 740. All drivetrains, and most options available in the 940 had been available in the 740, with the exception of the 780 Coupe. The 940 was more closely related to the 740 than the 760, sharing the same dashboard, drivetrain choices, and sheet metal from the A-pillar forward. In contrast, the 960 was an evolution of the 760. The 760 / 960 front sheet metal, independent rear suspension, dashboard, and other interior features were all exclusive to the two upscale models. 1994-1995 Volvo 940 Turbo sedan (US) In the United States, the 1991 940 was offered in three versions: the 940GLE used a DOHC 16-valve version of the 2.3-litre engine with a 6000 rpm redline. The 940 Turbo used a turbocharged 2.3-litre engine, and the top-end 940SE (turbo) included body-coloured trim, and the premium features (leather, power seats/moonroof, etc.) as standard equipment.
In 1991, the 940 GLE was downgraded with a 114 bhp 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine and sold as the 940 GL (or basic 940 in some export markets). The 940 SE was altered in such a fashion that it was a 960 Turbo sold as the 940 SE, but the 940 Turbo remained largely unchanged. Production of the 940 series ended on February 5, 1998.

The 1991 960 was an evolutionary progression of the 1990 760, but it was also one of the first cars to feature the work of British designer Peter Horbury. The most significant change was that, in most markets, the 960 was offered with an all-new aluminum 24-valve DOHC inline six-cylinder engine, often referred to as "white block" in the Volvo community due to its bare aluminum block. Max power was 204 PS (150 kW) at 6,000 rpm. Some markets, such as Australia and Japan, saw 1991 960s equipped with the same B280E/F V6 engine (145 PS/107 kW at 5,100 rpm) that had powered the 1990 760.[4] The 1992 model year saw the U.S. introduction of the DOHC inline six-cylinder engine. For the Italian and Portuguese markets, the 960 was available with the 16v 2-litre turbo (190/200 PS, 140/147 kW) from September 1990 until September 1993 along with the inline sixes. Certain markets also received the 2.3 litre turbo 'Redblock' four, with 165 PS (121 kW) and the Volkswagen built D24TIC with 116 or 122 PS (85 or 90 kW).[5] Volvo 960 wagon (US) The 960 received incremental changes for the 1992, 1993, and 1994 model years. Most visible were the new more shapely seats, and redesigned seat-belts with hydraulic pretensioners for 1992. 1993 saw a new more ergonomic shifter, and in 1994 dual front airbags were introduced in some markets. The opaque sunroof was replaced by a sliding sunshade and glass window. The US version of the 3-litre six was tuned for more torque and a less peaky power delivery, with 181 PS (133 kW) at 5,200 rpm and 270 N·m (199 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm (as opposed to 267 N·m/197 lb·ft at 4,300 rpm for the rest of the world).[6]
For 1995, the 960 underwent radical changes. Most obvious was the more aerodynamic front end, and more body-coloured panels.[6] A smaller 2.5 version of the six (2,473 cc) was also added to the lineup, with 170 PS (125 kW) or 180 PS (132 kW) for the B6244FS version. Only the modular six-cylinder engines were available from model year 1995 on. Underneath, the front suspension was completely retooled to more closely match that of the 850. Indeed, 1995 to 1998 960s may use the same wheels as 1994 and newer front-wheel drive Volvo models. The rear suspension received a completely redesigned multi-link independent system. Instead of conventional coil springs, Volvo used a single transverse fibreglass leaf spring. The 1995 960 station wagon marked the first time ever that Volvo equipped one of its rear-wheel drive station wagons with an independent rear suspension. The 1992-94 Volvo 960s were built in Kalmar, Sweden. The very first Volvo 960 for the US-market rolled off the assembly line on August 12, 1991 as a 1992 model. The 1995 to 1998 960s were built in Göteborg, Sweden. The first 1995 960 was built on June 27, 1994.
All US cars were equipped with an electronically controlled Aisin AW-series automatic transmission. Beginning in the 1995 model year, European cars with the 2.5 L engines were also available with a manual transmission, the so-called M90, a strong new design that was derived from the Volvo 850's transmission. Later in 1991, Volvo offered a sedan and wagon badged the 740 SE, standing for Special Equipment. The 740 SE only came in three colors, red, black, and white and had a special factory color-keyed body kit including front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a spoiler on the sedan. The 740 SEs, along with the 740 Turbo sedan, were subsequently discontinued for 1992. Mechanically the 740 SE was the same as a normal 740 Turbo but with many options such as a power sunroof and leather seats as standard equipment.
The SE badge was in fact one of the more confusing badges. In the US, the 940 SE was in fact a 960 Turbo with the four-cylinder B230FT engine, the 940 SE badge presumably chosen by Volvo in order to maintain the link between name and number of cylinders. In Sweden, the 940 SE was an ordinary non-turbo 940 with some optional extras as standard, most notably painted mirrors and bumpers. In the UK, the 940 SE was a 2-litre Turbo with some extras as standard aimed specifically at the company car market as 2-litre engines receive a tax benefit.

BUYING A USED VOLVO 900 Volvo 940/960 - Buying a used model. To many, the solid 900 Series is the quintessential Volvo; a robust, lumbering tank ideal for antique dealers. Certainly the older models did little to dispel this belief - but those in the know will tell you that later versions are very different. Displaced by the less boxy S and V90 line?up in 1996, the 900 Series has been around since the start of the decade. However, it only really came to prominence in the summer of 1994, the era we are concentrating on, when a substantially revised 960 was introduced, in turn leading to a much-improved 940 range. With its neater design, new interiors and improved trim levels, not to mention sharper handling and mellower ride due to modified suspension, the 960 suddenly started to look like a serious BMW rival. In short, it became as good to drive as it had always been to travel in. True, it never matched the very best from BMW Audi or Mercedes, but it still fares better than many in its class. Potential buyers should know their ranges. Although the 940 and the upmarket 960 look similar, the latter is by far the better car and wiser buy, benefiting from stronger engines, plusher cabins and a far classier ambience. In contrast, the 940 feels the cheaper spin-off, although it has always had price and the option of turbodiesel power on its side. There are many common qualities, however, and both cars feel immensely solid, rugged and safe. Comfort and spaciousness rank highly, too, plus what better big family estate could you wish for? A massive spread of models awaits you, and the final choice rests with buyers' needs. All are smooth and long-lasting, but non-turbocharged 2.3 litre 940s can feel overwhelmed in these heavyweight bodies. There is a pick of three 940-turbo powerplants, depending upon year: a 2.3 Turbo with 165bhp for earlier models; after 1994, a special LPT (Light Pressure Turbo) yielding a healthy 135bhp and strong pulling power; or the HPT (High Pressure Turbo) producing 170bhp. This latter unit replaced the earlier turbo in the summer of 1996. Only one turbodiesel was produced; a muscular six-cylinder, 122bhp, 2.4-litre providing nearly the same power as the 2.3 petrol unit. The turbos give a good account of themselves, with the HPT on a power par with the two big sixes found in the 960, but without the smoothness. The 2.9 six-pot has always delivered the goods, and in 24-valve guise punches out 204bhp. As part of the 1994 revamp, a downsized 2.3 litre was introduced. It does not have its bigger brother's midrange poke, but its 170bhp more than suffices, making it our choice. With the S/V90 evolution, the 960 was the first to duck out, starting in late 1996. However, a selected 940 range survived into 1998, the last being special value-for-money estates badged 2.3 Torslanda and the far better equipped LPT Celebration. Trim levels can be confusing. Originally they were S, L (940 only), plus SE, GLE and CD for both ranges. This was revised for 1996 cars where the S badging was dropped, but equipment upgraded. All are fairly well equipped, but aim for SE at least. In general terms, 960 trim is a step up from the equivalent 940; leather is standard on 960 GLEs, but you need to go for the top 940 CD for similar luxury The exceptions are the final 940 versions, which were really given a boost. Entry level models were now badged as Classic and kitted out with goodies such as alloy wheels. The SE featured leather and climate control, while CD models boasted cruise control, air conditioning and better quality leather upholstery A Volvo dealer will be able to explain the many changes, but it's a good idea to contact the UK importer to see if a copy of the relevant brochure is available to help you through the confusion. A Volvo which isn't as safe as houses wouldn't be right, so expect to find airbags and SIPS (Side Impact Protection System). Likewise, buyers expect nothing less than reliability and a well kept, dealer-serviced example should wear its miles and age with ease. Keep an eye out for worn 940 turbochargers; look for undue smoking and have the car checked professionally if you are dubious. The 960's units should be smooth and silky. THESE ARE VERY SOUGHT AFTER BECAUSE THEY ARE SO RELIABLE ITS ALSO A VERY ECONOMICAL, PRCTICAL ESTATE CAR AT A BARGAIN PRICE THE CAR WILL NOT NEED A CAMBELT FOR AT LEAST 50000 MILES & ANYONE THAT KNOWS THESE REAL VOLVOS WILL TELL YOU THAT THIS ONE IS A LOW MILEAGE EXAMPLE. I HAVE OWNED THESE WITH DOUBE & ONE WITH 4 TIMES THE MILEAGE THIS HAS & EVEN THAT ONE WAS MORE ECONOMICAL THAN A PETROL MONDEO. THIS IS A VERY GOOD CAR THAT WILL NOT DISSAPOINT THE NEW OWNER. IT HAS SERIOUS GRIN FACTOR AS WELL AS BEING A VERY VERSATILE CAR. IT DRIVES SPOT ON & I CANNOT FAULT IT APART FROM A FEW EXTREMELY MINOR BODYWORK ISSUES THAT YOU EXPECT FROM A CAR OF THIS AGE & MILEAGE, BUT NOTHING SERIOUS OR WORTH WORRYING ABOUT & IT COULD DO WITH A VERY LIGHT CLEAN INSIDE & OUT.
